Today, Donald Trump stated he would love to have Perez Hilton back as a judge for the Miss America Pageant. I have never met or talked to Donald Trump and I certainly don’t know anyone who has either. But that doesn’t change the fact that I am qualified to interpret his eye-opener. What he meant to say was, “I want anyone who can bring in the ratings and Perez will rake ‘em in.”
No offense Donald, but though it was Prejean who had the semi-nude photos done of herself, Trump is the only whore in this story. He has sold his soul to the ratings Devil and made a decision which will change the face of the pageant forever. Contrary to Mr. Trumps desire to make the pageant into an upscale quasi reality/talent show, it is not and was never designed to be so.
Young women have and likely still do aspire to be recognized for their beauty, poise and elegance. To be defined by competing against peers in hopes of being a representative of the best America has to offer. Trump has fondled the finer assets the pageant has had and in doing so has raped the seed from the core. No more will an apple be. We will e left with a shell of a show mirroring the pettiness of Paris Hilton, turmoil of Making Bonnaducci and ridicule of Last Comic Standing. All of which bring in viewers. But then, so do auto accidents and crime scenes. It won’t be watched because of its value, but because misery loves company.
Trump has done a great thing by standing up for Prejean and he should be applauded for his doing so. I wonder though about the motivation. Was it integrity and principle which swung the pendulum to Prejean’s side or was it ratings greed? Time will judge the decision as either just or not. Unlike, Judge #8, time is a non narcissistic interpreter of people and their opinions.
